Girls Track Getting Set for State. Again.

athleteThey're good, very good, and the 2005 state champion ETHS girls track team is still something to behold in 2006. The outdoor track and field season has begun and the team is tuning up for another run at the state title. Their overall talent was on display at the Niles West Invitational meet April 13.
"The only thing he (Coach Gunter) is interested in is the individual's progress and the track meet at the end," ETHS athletic director John Riehle said of the three-time state champs.

Opening Day for EBSA

April 17 was opening day for Evanston Baseball and Softball Association, with the largest number of boys and girls in Evanston history play on the teams this season.

"Almost 1600 players have registered for the 2006 season," said Casey Miller, co-president with Bill Blanchard of the EBSA. "We will field a total of 123 baseball and softball teams this spring. It is very heartening when you consider that just 10 years ago there were only 45. Interest has never been higher and we are delighted with the growth of our sports."

There will be three seasons of ball this year: regular season, April 17 through mid-June; July Ball season, which includes travel seasons for both baseball and softball; and Fall Ball, Labor Day until November.

Team Evanston Soccer Skills Sessions and Open Houses

Team Evanston Soccer will hold soccer skill sessions for Evanston boys and girls in grades 1-3 who are not currently part of the Team Evanston travel soccer program.

This camp consists of a sequence of four consecutive development sessions, held Saturdays April 29 through May 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and conducted by Team Evanston coaches.

These sessions are open to children of all abilities who enjoy soccer and who are interested in further developing their soccer skills and might have an interest in playing competitive soccer. The cost is $55; visit www.teamevanston.org or call 847-289-7154.

Team Evanston will also host two upcoming informational open houses: at 7 p.m. April 26 at the Chandler-Newberger Center, 1028 Central St., and at 4 p.m. at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave.

Parents and prospective players will have a chance to visit with coaches, players and other members of Team Evanston Soccer.
