Holiday Time in the City
By Victoria Scott and Claire Bryant, Intern

Santa stepped out of his trolley into Fountain Square last Tuesday, and the crowd cheered while the Music Institute of Chicago's Children's Chorus sang "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

People were bundled up against the cold night to watch Santa and Mayor Lorraine Morton welcome in the holidays at the City's Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

The Mayor joined in with the chorus for a few Christmas carols, and Santa and his helpers wandered through the crowd, handing out red and green glow sticks and candy canes.

When the music from the choir faded, Mayor Morton asked on Santa to light the tree. "1, 2, 3," she called. Santa pushed the giant switch, and the square lit up with Christmas colors. Then Santa waved a jolly good-bye as he left to prepare for the busy month ahead.
