Fisk University Choir Comes to Sherman Church
The legendary Fisk University Choir will perform a benefit concert from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Sherman United Methodist Church, 2214 Ridge Ave. The concert celebrates the church’s 92nd year of Christian discipleship in Evanston.

Biking Evanston Slated to Become More Convenient
Evanston was abuzz in late September with talk of bicycles and places to ride them. Even before residents and City Council members talked about bike paths and bike routes at the Sept. 29 City Council meeting, the Green Living Festival and Bike the Ridge demonstrated with gentle persuasion the joy, ease and importance of replacing the gas pedal with the bike pedal.

Representative Robyn Gabel Honored
The Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) released its 2014 Environmental Scorecard this week. Representative Robyn Gabel has been honored with a perfect voting record. 35 state legislators received an award for their voting record during the 2013 legislative session at the Environmental Leadership Dinner held on Oct. 2.

Great Lakes Mayors Call for Action
Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl joined Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering and mayors from municipalities around the Great Lakes on Sept. 23 at a Great Lakes Water Quality Summit hosted by the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, Mayor Emanuel and the City of Chicago. The event was held at the Shedd Aquarium.

Art and Big Fork Festival
Sherman Avenue was filled the last weekend in September with local food, art and music, as the inaugural Art & Big Fork Festival stretched from Clark Street to Fountain Square. Musicians entertained from stages at both ends of the festival; tables for food, conversation and contemplation lined the center of the avenue; and artists in many media – including food – vended their wares curbside.

Zombie Scramble Features Family And Adult Races
On Nov. 1, zombies plan to invade Evanston for the first time as part of the City of Evanston Recreation Division’s inaugural Zombie Scramble. The race will bring friends and family together at Butler Park, 2090 Grey Ave., as they try to complete the 2-mile or 4-mile course without becoming “infected” by the zombies before they cross the finish line at the Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd.

'Frances Meets the Future ...' Celebrating Miss Willard's 175th Birthday With A Crowd, a Conference and a Cake
The birthday girl was there in spirit only, but that was enough for the Frances Willard Historical Association to host a weekend celebrating the 175th birthday of Frances E. Willard (1839-98) on Sept. 28. The run-up to the birthday party was Saturday’s leadership program billed as “Frances Meets the Future, Re-Igniting
the ‘Do Everything’ Spirit.”

Police Officers Participate in 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' On Oct. 5, members of the
On Oct. 5, members of the Evanston Police Department participated in an event called “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” The event was in support of the Northwest Center Against Sexual Assault which provides services to those affected by sexual assault and sexual abuse.
