In recognition of Women’s History Month each year, the Cook County Commission on Women’s Issues presents the Unsung Heroine Award to 17 women from across Cook County. The awards ceremony takes place at an event in mid-March.
Selection is organized on a district basis to ensure that women from each area of Cook County are recognized. The Commission on Women’s Issues creates a selection committee in each district that will seek community input, collect nominations and decide on an awardee.
Recipients must be residents of the County Board district from which they are nominated. They should be women who, either in a professional or volunteer capacity, have made significant contributions to their community for which they have not received widespread recognition. Elected officials are not eligible for consideration.
The 2014 award application deadline is Jan. 9, 2014. Nominations should be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org (preferred); by mail to 500 N. Dearborn St., Ste. 1150, Chicago, IL 60654; or by fax to 312-645-0974.
The application form can be found at http://www.suffredin.org/news/newsitem.asp?newsitemid=6039.
The 13th County Board district includes Evanston, Rogers Park (Chicago), Morton Grove, Lincolnwood, Skokie, Northbrook, Glenview, Niles, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka and Glencoe.
