Virginia V. Mann is seeking office for Alderman of the Sixth Ward in Evanston in the upcoming elections.

Virginia will be an excellent Alderman for this ward because she is intelligent, informed, involved, committed, and already an active leader in Evanston’s community. She is highly motivated to understand community issues from all sides, and to engage with the residents of the ward to raise awareness, understand all aspects of the issues, and to represent the constituents’ interests.

Virginia has been a leader of resident-led efforts to protect and conserve Evanston’s trees from disease, educate residents about the issue and engage municipal groups to save one of Evanston’ greatest natural assets—its trees. Virginia’s professional background includes skills necessary to navigate this important civic arena, and includes among those attributes common to the alderman role: skills in strategic analysis, and experience in public communications, public relations and public affairs.

She is committed to the community, and will interact with her constituency to understand its concerns and represent its best interests.
In short, Virginia will make an exceptional Alderman for the 6th Ward.

Voting for Virginia,
Sheila J. Donahue

A Vote for Suffredin
I must admit that races for alderman haven’t always been at the top of my list to get excited about, but this spring I am excited about the candidacy of Tom Suffredin for 6th Ward alderman. Tom is a new neighbor who loves Evanston as much as I do. He has grown up in Evanston attending our wonderful school system. Tom, his wife Clare and their three children have settled in the 6th Ward actively mixing with those in the neighborhood.
Tom is a great listener who is able to turn concerns into action. He can seek various solutions so that potential problems become solvable with general agreement. I have already bent Tom’s ear with ideas I have thought about for some time. He welcomes new ideas and thoughts.
Ridgeway Avenue is glad to have Tom and his family in the 6th Ward and I feel he would make an excellent alderman.

Comment by: Jane Holt for Tendam

Editor: My husband Doug and I are long term 6th Ward Residents. We know and trust Mark Tendam and hope that you will join us in electing him as Evanston’s Mayor. We are supporting Mark for a lot of reasons but here are our top three.
>
> Mark has been a badly needed voice of reason, calm and stability on the Council. He is a consensus builder who knows how to work with all of our communities, not just one or two. He has worked to bring the police and residents together for rational conversations about best practices and de-escalation. He has worked with community activists and business leaders and has been a champion of smart development. These are the qualities we need in a Mayor.
>
> Mark has been a tireless advocate for inclusion and equality. Before Illinois had enacted any protections for same sex couples, Mark successfully lobbied the Council to adopt full spousal benefits for all City employees—setting a standard that many businesses in town then followed. Mark also got the City and police to appoint LGBTQ liaisons and adopt ordinances requiring gender neutral bathrooms at City Hall and all public places having more than two bathrooms.
>
> Mark has a 20 year record of fighting for the rights of Evanston’s most vulnerable citizens—seniors and the Homeless. He has increased access to (and badly needed funding for) the City’s warming shelters—ensuring that the homeless can come in out of the cold before temperatures drop to life threatening levels. And most recently, Mark pushed through changes to the City’s zoning ordinances that incentivizes developers to include affordable housing units in their projects.
>
> This is what being a mayor for everyone really looks like. This is the sort of experience that really does matter. And these are just three of many reasons why we are voting for Mark Tendam.

Comment by: Mary Alice Off for Thomas Suffredin

I am writing this letter on behalf of Thomas Suffredin, who is a candidate for 6th Ward alderman. Evanston is facing increased challenges. We have a wonderful lakefront, an abundance of parks, beautiful homes, and great schools. Our challenges include how to maintain this wonderful and open community while not pricing out any of the diversity that makes our city what it is.
Tom Suffredin possesses the thoughtfulness and decision-making skills to engage with others in meeting the challenges ahead. He has been working in Springfield so he understands the need for a calm and deliberate approach to solving problems. He is an apt listener able to understand many sides of issues. He is a home owner, busy raising a family, supporting our public schools and committed to making Evanston a welcoming city.
I enthusiastically endorse Thomas Suffredin for 6th Ward alderman.
