Mitchell Museum of the American Indian and the City of Evanston Announce Indigenous Peoples' Day will Replace Columbus Day
Mitchell Museum of the American Indian and the city of Evanston are joining leaders of other progressive cities, universities and cultural institutions around the world to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day. Celebrated on the second Monday of October, Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrates the contributions of Indigenous people throughout the world, and acknowledges the many tribes who lived across America long before Christopher Columbus and waves of immigrants came to America.

The Mitchell Museum Announces Spring Break Family Activities for Evanston Students
Families can stop by The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian weekdays during Spring Break (Friday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 29-Friday, April 1) and make Native American inspired crafts that they can take home. All day DIY crafts are free with regular admission. They are recommended for children ages 5 and up, but there is no minimum age requirement. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. No pre-registration is necessary.

Mitchell Museum Presents: Behind the Scenes- "Collections Connection" Saturday, March 12
Join the Mitchell Museum on Saturday, March 12 from 3:00-4:00 pm for "Collections Connection." Executive Director Kathleen McDonald will lead a unique behind the scenes program exploring the many facets of caring for the Mitchell Museum's collection. Visitors will learn what it is like to be a curator of a small museum while getting an interactive look at some of the unique objects from the museum's 10,000 piece collection from tribes across the United States and Canada.

Mitchell Museum of the American Indian Announces its Newest Exhibit "Connecting Cultures: 40 Years at the Mitchell Museum"
The Mitchell Museum will unveil its latest exhibit "Connecting Cultures: 40 Years at the Mitchell Museum" on Saturday, February 27. The exhibit celebrates four decades of thought provoking exhibits, lectures, and performances through photographs and memorabilia, and a dazzling display of 45 objects donated by key collectors and Native artists who have presented at the museum.

Mitchell Museum of the American Indian's Annual Benefit "A Decade of Independence" March 19
The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian will host its annual benefit "A Decade of Independence" at the Wilmette Golf Club on Saturday, March 19 from 6:00-9:30pm. This year's event will feature music by Mark Cleveland Cherokee, elegant cuisine, a silent auction, grand prize raffle drawing, and a presentation highlighting the successes of the past decade since the museum separated from Kendall College in 2006. Tickets are $135 per person. Tables that seat 8 are also available for $1,000 ($125 per person.)

Final Weeks of Mitchell Museum of the American Indian's "Miniature Artwork-Enormous Appeal" Exhibit
Mitchell Museum of the American Indian's exhibit "Miniature Artwork - Enormous Appeal", which opened last spring, is closing February 14. The exhibit features miniature interpretations of Native American utilitarian and ceremonial objects including basketry, silverwork, carving, weaving and pottery from the 1900s to today.
