ISBE Plans to Shift from PARCC in Spring 2019
On Feb. 14, the Illinois State Board of Education authorized the release of a Request for Sealed Proposals (RFSP) for a new assessment system for third through eighth graders in math and reading/language arts, said Superintendent Tony Smith in his weekly message dated Feb. 14.

Results Disappointing for 2017 District 65 Achievement Report
Superintendent Paul Goren said the data is “sobering” and the District has been attempting to improve achievement though early childhood programs, literacy work in the early grades, goal setting that goes on at the school level, and equity work.

District 65 to Add an Executive Director for Black Student Success
At the Jan. 22 School Board meeting, Superintendent Paul Goren summarized past efforts to improve Black student achievement and  some of the next steps that he plans to take, including creating two new positions: an Executive Director for Black Student Success and an Equity Instructional Coach.

ETHS School Board Resolution on Confidentiality Withdrawn to Avoid 'Further Distractions
Less than a month after the District 202 School Board passed a controversial resolution about confidentiality, it voted unanimously to withdraw it. The reversal came on the same day a letter from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) arrived questioning the legality of the Board’s Dec. 11 action.

Jill Collins, Emma Estberg, and Maria Iordanov, leaders of the international development committee of the ETHS Community Service Club, are collecting recipes from Evanston restaurants, families, students, teachers, and community members to  create an Evanston Community cookbook.
