Evaluation of IEP Procedures
By Larry Gavin

Richard Rykhus, vice-president of the District 65 School Board and a member of the District’s Inclusion Committee, said at the Aug. 19 School Board meeting, "We’re going to need to do some sort of review in terms of our policies and our procedures just to make sure we’re in compliance with what was ruled," in the federal case that recently found District 65 violated the disabilities law in preparing an IEP for the 2011-12 school year. "I think we’ll need to talk with the administrators and give them a chance to reflect and see what they think might need to be modified."

The evaluation could be made by the District’s Inclusion Committee or the Board’s Policy Committee before coming back to the School Board.
