Geometry in Construction Becomes House on the Move
The journey from 1600 Dodge Ave. to 2142 Dewey Ave. can be measured in months as well as miles. Over the course of this past school year, students in three classes of Evanston Township High School’s Geometry in Construction course studied plans, solved problems, learned and applied skills, passed inspections, and built a two-story house in the school’s south parking lot.

The Massage Therapy Foundation announced that Team MTF – Running for Research raised a total of $45,832 on the journey to the 2016 Boston Marathon. The team members were Nicole Bucar, Marcy Cook, and David Otto.

District 65 Board Discusses Draft Equity Statement, Ongoing Equity Work
The 10-point statement acknowledges that the District “must work proactively to acknowledge racial and cultural biases, and eliminate institutional structures and practices that affect student learning and achievement.”

Consultant to Conduct 9-Month Equity Audit at District 65
Ms. Wallace said she will conduct the ewuity audit in two phases, and it will be aligned with the District’s strategic plan “to complement the whole child culture/climate initiative.”

D65 Board to Continue Industrial Arts at Haven for at Least One More Year
Of the three middle schools in District 65, only Haven offers industrial arts, and, even though Lee Kuhlman just retired after more than 30 years as the industrial arts teacher there, the District 65 Board voted on June 13 to continue shop classes for at least another year.

Park School Board Meets to Discuss Budget, Future
Representatives of School District 65 and Evanston Township High School (ETHS) met June 7 to discuss fiscal projections, budgeting strategies, and student enrollment for Park School’s 2016-17 school year. The school, which services students with mild to severe cognitive and physical disabilities, will take a financial hit with the loss of three out-of-district students, though it was clarified that there would be “no major adjustments” for fiscal year 2016.

 A team of Evanston Township High School students has been selected for the International Mathmatical Modeling Challenge (IM2C) and is one of three teams from Illinois to participate in the contest.

ETHS Students Selected for Cross-cultural Summer Program
Thirteen students from Evanston Township High School have been selected to participate in a summer program with Global Glimpse, a nonprofit organization that offers high school students a hands-on cross-cultural education experience designed to cultivate leadership, self-exploration and global citizenship.

Park School Mural Tells a Story of Love
Pam Weiland and her brother-in-law Rick Weiland stood on the parkway at 828 Main St. on May 21, watching as teachers, staff administrators, and friends of Park School assembled a mural on the school’s front wall. The mural dedicated to the memory of Lisa Weiland O’Brien – Mr. Weiland’s niece and Ms. Weiland’s daughter – who was killed in a traffic accident in 2013.

ETHS YTC Students Travel to New Orleans
Six Evanston Township High School Youth Technology Corps (YTC) student representatives traveled to New Orleans over spring break to “bridge the digital divide” by setting up two new YTC clubs in areas of New Orleans (NOLA) still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina a decade ago.

National Merit Scholarship Winners
 This year’s National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners include two seniors from Evanston Township High School. Adrian Lafont Mueller and Seth Paternostro are among 2,500 Merit Scholar designees who were chosen from more than 15,000 Finalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program.
