Statement From City Manager on Recent Shootings
Evanston Police Chief Rich Eddington has deployed additional officers into the field this evening (Tuesday July 8) and additional officers will be assigned as needed in the coming days

Shooting in 2000 Block of Dodge
Evanston police are investigating a shooting that occurred at about 1 p.m. on July 8 in the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue. Responding to a call of shots fired, they found a man, age 21, shot in leg.

Librarian Dies in Bicycle-Motorcycle Accident
Gigi Galich, 55, a children’s librarian at the Evanston Public Library, has died from injuries suffered in a traffic accident at about 9 a.m. on June 30.

Police Use Taser in Library Disturbance
A man who was playing music loud enough to disturb other patrons at the Main Library was stuned by a Taser used by Evanston Police officers after he refused to leave the premises.

Council Rejects 'Safety' Fence Around Top of Sherman Avenue Garage

Third Annual Youth Citizen Police Academy
The Evanston Police Department will hold its third annual Youth Citizen Police Academy on July 14-18. The free program is for Evanston residents ages 13-17 who are interested in learning about issues in law enforcement and criminal justice.Twenty-five participants are chosen, but the police department encourages anyone with a general interest in learning how law enforcement works to apply.

The motorcyclist was traveling east bound on Church Street when a bicyclist traveling east bound in the designated bike lane crossed Church Street mid-block into the path of the motorcycle, said police.

Two Shootings Early This Morning, One Fatality
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle, which had rolled into a tree, with a 22-year old male behind the steering wheel who had been shot multiple times, said the Commander.

Recent ETHS Grad Shot and Killed on June 6
Alante Vallejo, 18, was shot and killed on the Chicago side of Howard Street near Winchester Avenue on Friday, June 6, at approximately 1:45 p.m. He was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Beer Sales Coming to Gas Stations?
City Council introduced an ordinance that will, if passed, allow the sale of beer in gas stations with more than 3,000 square feet of interior retail space. As written the ordinance would cover only the Shell station on Oakton Street just east of the sanitary canal. It will be up for final vote next week.

Council Bytes: Highlights From the June 9 City Council Meeting
School is out and summer approaches full swing. The work of the Evanston City Council does not take a break, but it does slow down. The City cancelled its June 16 meeting for lack of sufficient agenda items, and only seven aldermen were present for the June 9 meeting.

Committee Holds DMK Liquor License
Changes to the City’s liquor code that were passed several weeks ago produced unintended consequences in the form of an application by DMK Burgers and Fish. The restaurant’s stated interest is to serve beer and wine only, yet the amended code no longer makes a distinction between restaurants serving beer and wine only and those serving all alcoholic beverages.
