Two Shootings Early This Morning, One Fatality

Evanston Police Investigators are currently investigating two shootings that occurred early this morning, June 28, 2014, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department.

The first shooting occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of Brown Avenue. An officer on routine patrol reported hearing several shots in the area. Police also received several calls placed to 9-1-1, reporting shots fired. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle, which had rolled into a tree, with a 22-year old male behind the steering wheel who had been shot multiple times, said the Commander.  There appeared to be no other occupants in the vehicle.

The victim, who has been identified as Albert E. Norman of 1711 Grey Ave. in Evanston, was transported by Fire Department paramedics to Evanston Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident is currently under investigation by Evanston Police Department detectives as well as investigators from the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force (NORTAF), said Commander Parrott.

Also, this morning at approximately 3:30 a.m., while still on the scene of the homicide, officers heard additional shots in the area which were also reported by 9-1-1 callers. Subsequently, responding officers found a 50-year old male victim, who had been standing in front of a residence in the 1900 block of Dodge Avenue, shot multiple times in the leg, said Commander Parrott.  The man was transported by Evanston Fire Department paramedics to Presence Saint Francis Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

There are no suspects in custody at this time, and police continue to investigate to determine whether the two incidents are related, said the Commander.

Anyone with information regarding either incident is being asked to contact the Evanston Police Department at (847)866-5000 or anonymously via the Police Department’s Text-a-Tip program from any cell phone with texting capability. Tips should be sent to CRIMES (274637) and type EPDTIP in the message line along with the information.
