Young Man Killed On Sept. 10, Near ETHS

Updated 9/17/13. On Sept. 10, just after 11 p.m., Evanston police responded to a call of shots fired and a person shot in the 1700 block of Leland Avenue, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department. On the scene, police found a young man on the street at 1740 Leland Ave., shot and unresponsive, said the Commander. The young man has been identified as Cardereon Priester, age 21, of 1741 Leland Ave.

Evanston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to the Evanston North Shore University Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead a short time later, said the Commander. Evanston Police detectives and members of the North Regional Major Crime Task Force were called to the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals that Mr. Priester was shot one time in the upper torso from behind, said Commander Parrott. Police believe he was the intended target, the Commander added.

Police are attempting to locate witnesses and reviewing video surveillance camera footage in the area. Police ask that anyone with information about this shooting to contact the Evanston Police Department at (847)866-5000. If persons want to remain anonymous, they should utilize the Text-a-Tip program by texting to CRIMES (274637) and typing EPD TIP in the message line along with the tip information.

No one is in police custody at this time related to this incident.

On Sept. 17, Commander Parrott told the RoundTable that the body of the young man was found on the street at 1740 Leland Ave. (not 1731 Leland Ave.). The location was across from where the young man, identified as Cardereon Priester, resided at 1741 Leland Ave.
