Diversidad Latina en Evanston
Jacquelyn Hernández Carson es una Latina multiétnica. “Durante los 80s en Evanston, yo era única. Como una mujer Africana Americana Mexicana, yo me reconozco como “Blaxican.” Estoy muy orgullosa de mi herencia mexicana.”  Nativa de Evanston, el primer idioma de la Sra. Carson es español. “Aprendí a hablar inglés en la escuela Dawes.” Como una terapista matrimonial y familiar bilingüe en Northwest Casa, ella es culturalmente comprensible y valorada por su equipo. “Creciendo, latinos en Evanston realmente estaban entre sombras. Hoy, los latinos están por doquier y estoy muy feliz al ver esto.”

La determinación de Jacquelyn la ha guiado a través de su vida. “Siempre he querido ayudar a otros. Cuando asistía a Chute Middle School, me eligieron para ser una mediadora de compañeros y aprendí sobre la resolución de conflictos. Después en la ETHS a través de un programa de salud profesional, fui capaz de aprender sobre diferentes profesiones en el campo médico. Eso fue cuando me di cuenta que yo sería una terapista.” La Sra. Carson obtuvo su licenciatura de ciencia en psicología en Northern Illinois University y completó una maestría de programa en asesoramiento en Northwestern University.

A través de los programas de educación de prevención de violencia en Northwest Casa, Jacquelyn visita escuelas y comunidades para crear conciencia sobre los servicios disponibles para sobrevivientes de abuso y agresión. “A través de nuestra línea directa de crisis las 24 horas (888-802-8890) podemos responder rápidamente a las víctimas que necesitan apoyo. Nuestros servicios son gratis, no requerimos pruebas de residencia y hablamos español. Latina Diversity in Evanston
Jacquelyn Hernandez Carson is a multi-ethnic Latina. “During the 80s in Evanston, I was one of a kind. As an African American Mexican woman, I think of myself as a “Blaxican.” I am very proud of my Mexican heritage.” A native Evanstonian, Ms. Carson’s first language is Spanish. “I learned to speak English at Dawes School.” As a bilingual Marriage & Family therapist at Northwest Casa, she is a culturally responsive asset to her team. “Growing up, Latinos in Evanston were really in the shadows. Today, Latinos are everywhere and I am happy to see that.”

Jacquelyn’s self-determination has guided her throughout her life. “I have always wanted to help others. When I attended Chute Middle School, I was elected to be a Peer Mediator and learned about conflict resolution. Later at ETHS through a vocational health science program, I was able to learn about different professions in the medical field. That was when it became clear to me that I would become a therapist.” Ms. Carson earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Northern Illinois University and completed a Masters counseling program at Northwestern University.

Through Northwest Casa’s violence prevention educational programs, Jacquelyn visits schools and communities to raise awareness about services available for abuse and assault survivors. “Through our 24 Crisis Hotline (888-802-8890) we can quickly respond to victims in need of support. Our services are free, we do not require proof of residency and we speak Spanish.
