Albert E. Norman, 22, was fatally shot in the 1900 Block of Brown Avenue at approximately 12:45 a.m. on June 28.
A police officer on routine patrol reported hearing several shots in the area; police also received several 911 calls, reporting shots fired. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle, which had rolled into a tree, with Mr. Norman behind the steering wheel, said Perry Polinski of the Evanston Police Department. Mr. Norman had been shot multiple times. There appeared to be no other occupants in the vehicle.
Mr. Norman, of 1711 Grey Ave. in Evanston, was transported by Fire Department paramedics to Evanston Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. About one hour and 45 minutes later, while still on the scene of the homicide, officers heard additional shots in the area which were also reported by 911 callers. Subsequently, police officers found a 50-year-old male victim, who had been standing in front of a residence in the 1900 block of Dodge Avenue, shot multiple times in the leg, said Mr. Polinski. The man was transported by the Evanston Fire Department paramedics to Presence Saint Francis Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
There are no suspects in custody at this time, and police continue to investigate to determine whether the two incidents are related, said Mr. Polinski.
