St Petersburg and Prague Are Destinations in &lsquo Musical Passports&rsquo

For Evanston Symphony Orchestra&rsquo s 67th Season

Evanston, IL &mdash Slavic Favorites &ndash and a Romanian born violinist &ndash highlight the second destination of the Evanston Symphony Orchestra&rsquo s 67th season, themed &ldquo Musical Passports.&rdquo The concert is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3 at Pick-Staiger concert hall in Evanston.

The concert features great pieces from the Slavic symphonic repertoire: Glinka&rsquo s Russlan and Ludmilla Overture, Dvorak&rsquo s Violin Concerto in A Minor and Tchaikovsky&rsquo s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor.

Conducted by Music Director Lawrence Eckerling, the orchestra will feature violinist Irina Muresanu in the Dvorak Concerto.

The Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla, premiered in St. Petersburg in 1842, is the earliest Russian piece in the standard symphonic repertoire. The Dvorak Violin Concerto was first performed in Prague in 1883 and the Tchaikovsky Fifth Symphony had its premiere in St. Petersburg in 1888.

The violin soloist, now based in Boston, has performed twice previously with the ESO, as well as on international stages in Europe and Asia.

Other Musical Passports destinations planned for the 2012-13 season by the Evanston Symphony Orchestra are Music from the English Countryside on May 5 and From the City of Light to Eternal Rome on June 16.
