Sunday, November 17, 3-4:30 pm, 3rd Floor Seminar Room, Main Library
The Story of the Qur&rsquo an begins with an accessible account of its origins, placing Muhammad, the Muslim holy book, and the first adherents to Islam in historical context. Mattson uses translated passages from the Qur&rsquo an, as well as scholarly sources and stories from the time of Muhammad to give readers a sense of its language, imagery, and rhythm. Mattson also explains how the Qur&rsquo an has been transmitted both as recitation and scripture, &ldquo the voice and the pen,&rdquo from Islam&rsquo s formative days to the present, and describes the Qur&rsquo an&rsquo s role in Muslim culture and daily life. Discussion will be led by Tahera Ahmad, Associate University chaplain of Northwestern University. You must be registered to attend. Register and reserve your copy online or by calling 847-448-8620.
